International Artistry Defined 2014 Concert Series

December 15th 2014
Concert Series

Guest artists from China, France, Russia, Canada, Israel, and Palestine – as well as the entire roster of Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra – provided inspiration, joy, and amazing artistry throughout the year as CIPC presented the 2014 Concert Series. The Crescendo gala, held in the Ames Family Atrium of the Cleveland Museum of Art after the third concert, provided a wonderful opportunity for old friends to catch up and new friends to meet.

Bishara Haroni and Yaron Kohlberg of Duo Amal kicked off the 2014 Concert Series with a sold out performance in Reinberger Chamber Hall at Severance Hall on Saturday, February 22. Mr. Haroni, who is Palestinian, and Mr. Kohlberg, an Israeli who was a medalist at the 2007 CIPC, use their friendship and their music to spread a message of cross-cultural collaboration and peace.

2013 First Prize winner Stanislav Khristenko performed in recital in Kulas Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music on Sunday May 11. He is shown here at a post-concert reception with Series Presenting Sponsors Zoya and Michael Reyzis. Cleveland Plain Dealer music critic Zachary Lewis called the performance, which included works by Bartok, Krenek, Chopin, Liszt, and Prokofiev “a fireball of a program” and wrote that “the pianist dazzled.”

The four medalists from the 2013 Competition brought the house down at an August 23 performance in Gartner Auditorium at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Pictured left to right are Jiayan Sun, Stanislav Khristenko, François Dumont, and Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev. The four pianists performed duo piano concerti with Cleveland’s acclaimed Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra, as well as duo piano works, before concluding the program with an amazing eight-hand performance of Lavignac’s Galop-Marche.

Hundreds of guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner at Crescendo, a benefit for the CIPC that took place immediately after the August 23 concert. Held in the spectacular Ames Family Atrium at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Crescendo raised more than $100,000.

Angela Hewitt closed the series with a world-class performance on November 15 in Gartner Auditorium at the Cleveland Museum of Art. A medalist at the 1979 Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition (predecessor to the CIPC), Ms. Hewitt has gone on to become one of the world’s leading pianists
